Information About Therapy at Freelife Behavioral Health

Affirming Therapy in Illinois for LGBTQIA+ Adults & Their Relationships

Individual therapy at Freelife connects you with a trained and compassionate therapist capable of addressing a wide variety of needs. We proudly work with individuals from a wide range of identities with special focus in offering affirming treatment to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary, queer, and asexual individuals, as well as their loved ones. Our therapists work from an integrative approach and utilize skills to help you go beyond just managing your symptoms. Our approach includes a thorough assessment of our client’s lives and experiences to help you identify and treat the root causes of whatever is holding you back from feeling well, fulfilled, and free.

Freelife therapists also offer relationship therapy for couples and for people in poly relationships with more than 2 partners. We actively affirm clients in same-sex, queer, poly, kink, open, and monogamous relationships. Our approach involves working with each member of the relationship to identify individual needs, values, desires, and beliefs and to help the relationship see the ways these aspects “dance” with those of their partners. With these insights, therapy can help each member gain perspective about what is happening in the relationship and provide them the freedom to make changes and choices to improve the way each member feels and operates within the relationship. Our couples therapists also work from a sex-positive framework.

Therapy that doesn’t ask you to explain yourself.

  • Therapy is a collaborative space where you can talk openly about what’s coming up for you with a trained, affirming therapist. Together, you’ll explore patterns, emotions, and experiences at a pace that feels right. Therapy isn’t about fixing you. It’s about understanding yourself more deeply and building tools that support your wellbeing.

  • Therapy can help you navigate stress, anxiety, identity questions, relationships, burnout, and past experiences that still affect you today. For queer and LGBTQIA+ folks, it can also be a space to unpack the stress of oppression, shame, or feeling unseen, while building clarity, confidence, and emotional safety.

  • You don’t need to be in crisis to start therapy. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, curious, or ready for support that respects your identity and lived experience, therapy can be a helpful step. At Freelife, therapy meets you where you are and moves at your pace.
