Dr. Alex Luxon

Staff Therapist

Hi, I’m Dr. Alex Luxon (she/hers) and I’m a Staff Therapist here at Freelife Behavioral Health. My hope, in my clinical work, is to help you live a full and meaningful life, whatever that looks like for you. I believe my role is to be your partner in that process, to make the journey even a little less intimidating and daunting.

My Background

I graduated with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2024 from Illinois Tech. Through my training during and after my doctoral program, I have worked in a variety of different, multidisciplinary settings with specialized training in LGBTQ+ affirmative and trauma-informed care. Most recently, I worked primarily with individuals diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

My Approach

The foundation of psychotherapy for me is the relationship; without trust and safety, not much else will be accomplished. As such, I start by learning about you to better understand what led to you seeking psychotherapy. As we get to know each other better, we’ll discuss and practice different methods of engaging with your inner experiences (thoughts, emotions) and the outer world; in short, I want you to feel empowered and emboldened to use different aspects of yourself to live more fully. Previous clients would characterize me as empathetic, compassionate, and deeply dedicated to their overall wellbeing, while also incorporating a healthy sense of humor and always pushing and challenging the societal boundaries that any of us are expected to exist within.

My Expertise

My expertise focuses on LGBTQ+ affirming individual and couples therapy, with a particular interest in working with individuals who identify within the asexual and aromantic communities. I primarily engage in trauma-informed therapy with individuals who have experienced a variety of different types of trauma, whether a single incident or ongoing. However, I also work with individuals working to manage a variety of other stressors including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and self-worth, and chronic invalidation, to name a few.
